چکیده

The rapid emergence of massive datasets in various fields poses a serious challenge to traditional statistical methods. Meanwhile, it provides opportunities for researchers develop novel algorithms. Inspired by the idea divide-and-conquer, distributed frameworks estimation and inference have been proposed. They were developed deal with large-scale optimization problems. This paper aims provide comprehensive review related literature. It includes parametric models, nonparametric other frequently used models. Their key ideas theoretical properties are summarized. trade-off between communication cost estimate precision together concerns discussed.

Communication-Efficient Distributed Statistical Inference

We present a Communication-efficient Surrogate Likelihood (CSL) framework for solving distributed statistical inference problems. CSL provides a communication-efficient surrogate to the global likelihood that can be used for low-dimensional estimation, high-dimensional regularized estimation and Bayesian inference. For low-dimensional estimation, CSL provably improves upon naive averaging schem...

Procrustean statistical inference of deformations

A two step method has been devised for the statistical inference of deformation changes. In the first step of this method and based on Procrustes analysis of deformation tensors, the significance of the change in a time or space series of deformation tensors is statistically analyzed. In the second step significant change(s) in deformations are localized. In other words, they are assigned to ce...

“Magnitude-based Inference”: A Statistical Review

PURPOSE We consider "magnitude-based inference" and its interpretation by examining in detail its use in the problem of comparing two means. METHODS We extract from the spreadsheets, which are provided to users of the analysis (http://www.sportsci.org/), a precise description of how "magnitude-based inference" is implemented. We compare the implemented version of the method with general descr...

Scalable Algorithms for Distributed Statistical Inference

The classical framework on distributed inference considers a set of nodes taking measurements and a fusion center making the final decision on the underlying phenomenon, without dealing with the issue of transporting the measurements to the fusion center. Such an approach introduces significant overhead in communication. Communicating all the raw data for inference is not scalable: in this case...
